Welcome back to my third blog post! I hope that you have enjoyed joining me on this exciting journey so far. In this post, I am going to be providing you with what my business operation currently looks like.
Currently, my business is quite small, as I am trying to get my new venture up off the ground. I am a solo operator now, which comes with its pros and cons. To start, the pros. Quality control is guaranteed as a solo operator. I am on each jobsite, I schedule a quote, communicate with the customers, and perform each job to perfection with my expertise. This is huge, as I do not have to constantly monitor and manage other employees’ performances. Another pro is payroll and “pocketing” earnings. Being a solo operator allows me to constantly reinvest into my business, so that I can continue to scale and grow as a business. I do not have to worry about payroll, as I just must pay myself periodically. With pros, comes with cons. A big con is efficiency. As I am working by myself, it takes a little longer in comparison to if I had other crew members. Another con is fatigue. In the same aspect as efficiency, it is a lot of hard work to perform by myself, compared to if I had more hands on each job. With all of that said, I am looking into hiring one employee this season to assist me. I am planning on hiring a good friend of mine, also my neighbor, Collin Dusman. Collin did great work for me as one of my employees at Pristine Green. He is currently a senior in high school. I am looking to bring Collin on in the early weeks of May. I have bounced back and forth with this idea, as I wanted to ensure him that there will be consistent work available to him throughout the rest of the season. He will be a great addition to the Martin’s Lawn and Landscape organization. As I mentioned in my second blog post, I have taken the last four and a half months to prepare and create the most strategic plans possible for this upcoming season. I am writing to you in the month of March, which is when the madness begins! As of this week, March 25th marked our first day of Weekly Lawn Maintenance. Weekly Lawn Maintenance consists of mowing, trimming edging, and blowing. I am a big fan of this service, as it provides reoccurring revenue on a weekly basis. I set a goal at the beginning of the year to obtain 25 weekly clients by June. With a heavy emphasis of advertising, I am almost halfway to my goal with 12 weekly clients. I am going to continue to advertise, in hopes of a strong success of word of mouth advertising. Along with weekly maintenance clients, I have set a goal to perform 1-2 landscaping projects a week to continue to add to revenue, to generate greater profits. I have landscaping jobs scheduled through the end of April. With all this said, I am starting to become quite busy. One of the biggest challenges is finding a good balance with school, work, family, friends, physical health, etc. I am very excited to continue this journey, but I must stay focused and disciplined. I hope you have been enjoying reading about my journey as a small business owner at the age of 21. I will see you next time!
